Zelensky Accuses US of Trying to “Please” Putin, Warns Against Weak Peace Deals Favoring Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has raised serious concerns over the ongoing peace talks aimed at ending the nearly three-year-long war between Russia and Ukraine. As the high-stakes discussions begin in Saudi Arabia, Zelensky has accused the United States of trying to “please” Russian President Vladimir Putin, warning that any peace deal that favors Russia would weaken Europe’s military security and undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty.

Zelensky expressed his dissatisfaction with the ongoing peace efforts, especially after it was confirmed that Ukraine and the European Union would not be included in the talks. This exclusion follows a controversial decision made by former U.S. President Donald Trump, which has led to emergency discussions among European leaders in Paris. The absence of Ukraine in these critical negotiations has added to the growing tension between European allies and the U.S. over how to approach the war’s resolution.

Speaking in an interview in Munich, Zelensky made it clear that his country would not accept any peace agreement that was reached without Ukraine’s participation. He described the U.S.’s approach as one of appeasement towards Russia, stressing that simply calling for a ceasefire would not be a real victory. “The US is now saying things that are very favorable to Putin… because they want to please him,” Zelensky said, adding that Washington’s push for a quick and easy resolution was both unrealistic and dangerous for Ukraine’s future.

Zelensky reiterated that Ukraine would never accept losing territory seized by Russia since the invasion began in 2014. “We will reclaim it all,” he firmly declared, rejecting the idea of ceding Ukrainian land in any peace agreement. The Ukrainian president emphasized that his country’s future was at stake and vowed to protect its independence, even if it meant rejecting short-term solutions to the conflict.

Meanwhile, European leaders are grappling with the potential fallout of the U.S. strategy. An emergency meeting was held in Paris on Monday, where discussions centered on ensuring Europe’s military autonomy and increasing support for Ukraine. European leaders expressed strong opposition to the U.S. approach, highlighting the need for NATO unity and reaffirming their commitment to Ukraine’s cause.

Zelensky warned that Europe’s position would be perilous if it became reliant on the U.S. security umbrella alone. He acknowledged that while Ukraine had grown more resilient over the past three years of conflict, a true victory would remain out of reach without continued U.S. support. Despite the tense situation, Zelensky made it clear that Ukraine would not back down from its fight for sovereignty and territorial integrity.

As talks between the U.S. and Russia unfold, the world watches closely to see how the conflict might finally come to an end. However, with Zelensky’s strong stance and Europe’s divided position, it remains uncertain whether a peace deal will be reached that respects Ukraine’s demands while satisfying Russia’s interests.
