Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has officially signed the 2025 Appropriation Bill into law, with a record budget of N675.2 billion aimed at reviving the state’s economy and delivering democratic dividends to its people.

During the signing ceremony at the Government House on Tuesday, Governor Okpebholo described the budget as a “Renewed Hope Budget for a Rising Edo.” He expressed optimism that the approved expenditure would accelerate economic growth and significantly enhance the lives of Edo residents.

This budget of N675,220,058,858.52 reflects our commitment to rebuilding and strengthening Edo’s economy,” the governor stated. “Special care was taken to ensure that a larger percentage was allocated to capital expenditure. This administration is committed to undertaking massive capital projects in the new fiscal year to meet the needs of our people.

The governor praised the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, and other legislators for their diligent and timely consideration of the bill, which led to its swift passage.

Earlier, during the presentation of the budget to Governor Okpebholo, Speaker Agbebaku revealed that the House had increased the initial budget estimate from N605.7 billion to N675.2 billion to allocate more resources to the agricultural sector. This adjustment reflects the government’s commitment to prioritizing key sectors that drive sustainable development.

The budget, which was initially presented to the legislature on December 10, 2024, underwent thorough scrutiny before being approved on Monday. The significant increase, driven by the Assembly’s efforts, underscores the importance of ensuring that critical sectors like agriculture receive adequate funding to bolster the state’s economy.

Governor Okpebholo emphasized that the 2025 fiscal year would focus on capital-intensive projects, positioning Edo State for growth and long-term development. With the budget now signed into law, all eyes are on the administration to deliver on its promises of progress and prosperity.
