Hon. Leke Abejide, the member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has emphasized that his ongoing developmental efforts align closely with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Abejide made this statement during the flag-off of the N100m Leke Abejide Foundation (LAF) Cooperative, Thrift Credit Union loan disbursement and the distribution of food items in Alu, Yagba East Local Council, Kogi State.
During the event, Abejide inaugurated the non-interest loan scheme, which was primarily aimed at empowering women. Cooperative societies from the three local councils in Yagba Federal Constituency Mopamuro, Yagba East, and Yagba West were recipients of N25m, N45m, and N30m respectively. The scheme, which seeks to promote small-scale business expansion, aims to generate job opportunities and stimulate local economies across the constituency.
Abejide emphasized that his goal is not only to provide good governance for Yagba East, Yagba West, and Mopamuro but also to extend his initiatives to the Kabba Bunu-Ijumu and Lokoja/Kotonkarfe Federal Constituencies. He clarified that his work is driven by a commitment to humanity, not political ambitions. He also addressed the misconception that the people of Kogi State have not yet felt the impact of President Tinubu’s leadership.
Once you see me and feel my impact, you have already felt the impact of the President, Abejide said, stressing that the local impact of his initiatives mirrors the broader vision for national development laid out by President Tinubu.
The LAF empowerment programme also included the distribution of 30,000 pieces of six-yard Ankara to widows across the constituency, along with essential food items such as rice, sugar, salt, and garri. The programme was hailed for its significant contributions to uplifting families and promoting local businesses.
Abejide highlighted the importance of empowering women, stating that the N100m loan scheme was designed to foster economic growth and enable women entrepreneurs to thrive. He also addressed the upcoming 2027 elections, making it clear that his focus remains on governance, not political distractions.
I want to focus on governance to make Yagba Federal Constituency the envy of all. When it’s time for politicking, it will be played, Abejide stated, stressing the importance of local engagement and capacity building over electoral rhetoric.
The yearly WAEC fees provided by Abejide’s foundation, and the development initiatives for women, underscore his dedication to grassroots empowerment. The tenth edition of the widow empowerment programme, which began in 2014, continues to benefit women in Yagba, with Abejide being praised for his commitment to sustainable development and effective representation.
