Governor Biodun Oyebanji has urged the newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Mr. Joseph Eribo, to ensure the state continues to uphold its reputation as one of the safest and most investment-friendly in Nigeria. The governor expressed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the safety of residents and the protection of property across the state.
Speaking at a meeting with the top brass of the police in his office in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, Oyebanji, represented by Deputy Governor Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, emphasized the importance of security in the state’s development. He credited the collective efforts of the police and Ekiti residents for the state’s consistent ranking as a safe haven for both residents and investors.
The governor highlighted that effective policing is integral to economic growth and development, urging the police to maintain aggressive patrols and work collaboratively with other security agencies. He stressed the need for more dedication and hard work from the police officers to ensure Ekiti remains a crime-free zone, offering a peaceful environment conducive to business.
“We need to ensure that our people feel safe everywhere, across all 16 local governments, with their two eyes closed. It is under the atmosphere of peace that investments thrive,” Oyebanji stated. He reiterated his support for the police, assuring them that his administration would provide all necessary resources to aid their operations.
The Governor also called on the police to strengthen their relationships with community leaders and other law enforcement agencies to ensure effective law and order across the state. “Nobody is above the law,” he added.
In response, the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, acknowledged the Governor’s support and expressed his commitment to reinforcing the existing partnership between the state government and the police. He emphasized the need for a united effort in combating crime, urging citizens to cooperate with the police by reporting wrongdoers in their communities.
Eribo assured that the police command would continue to work tirelessly alongside other security agencies to ensure the safety of all Ekiti residents. “We are not perfect, but we are always ready to improve. Crime fighting is a collective effort. It requires the cooperation of every citizen,” he concluded.
The call for collaborative action and continued partnership between the government and the police aims to preserve the safety and security that Ekiti has long been known for, ensuring that it remains a peaceful place to live and invest.
