Iran has fired back at former U.S. President Donald Trump over his renewed push for the “maximum pressure” campaign against Tehran, insisting that such tactics will ultimately fail.
Masoud Pezeshkian’s spokeswoman, Mohajerani, made the statement while addressing journalists at the presidential compound, warning that Trump’s approach would “go nowhere” as Iran has an “active plan” to counter it.
She stated that Tehran had already anticipated that Trump would revive his tough stance against the Islamic Republic and had developed strategies to mitigate its effects. According to her, the Iranian administration is focused on strengthening the economy through domestic capabilities, the private sector, and enhanced relations with neighboring countries.
“The private sector and the industry sector are in a much better situation than in the past decades. Our knowledge-based companies are very active,” she said, emphasizing Iran’s resilience.
Mohajerani further noted that while Iranians believe in negotiations, they will not submit to external pressure or intimidation.
Trump, who had initially imposed the “maximum pressure” sanctions on Iran during his first term, recently vowed to reinstate them if re-elected. In May 2018, he withdrew the U.S. from the Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), citing concerns over Tehran’s regional activities and missile program.
Since then, relations between Iran and the U.S. have remained tense, with Tehran repeatedly insisting that Washington’s policies are ineffective and counterproductive.
