Three lawmakers from the Kaduna State House of Assembly, previously elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have officially switched allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The legislators—Henry Mara (Jaba Constituency), Emmanuel Kantiok (Zonkwa Constituency), and Samuel Kambai (Zango Constituency)—announced their defection on Thursday at their respective wards.
Speaking in separate interviews with PUNCH Online, they cited their decision as a move to align with the APC-led government at the state level, highlighting Governor Uba Sani’s leadership and development strides as key influences.
Their defection follows closely on the heels of a similar move by Amos Magaji, the lawmaker representing Zangon Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, who joined the APC just two days earlier.
Mara emphasized that the PDP’s once-stronghold in Southern Kaduna was rapidly fading.
“A major political shift is underway in the State House of Assembly, and more opposition members are likely to join the APC soon,” he said.
Kambai credited Governor Sani’s administration for bridging political divides in the state, claiming that his achievements have significantly weakened opposition parties.
“For years, Southern Kaduna has been a PDP stronghold, but Governor Uba Sani’s leadership has changed that narrative,” he stated.
Kantiok noted that Kaduna, once plagued by rising insecurity, has seen relative peace under the current administration. He assured that he would work to further the progress initiated by the governor.
With this latest defection, the APC continues to consolidate its political influence in Kaduna, signaling a possible shift in the state’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
