Anambra State Police Command has dismantled a notorious criminal camp in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area. The operation, carried out early on December 24, 2024, led to the recovery of 19 improvised explosive devices (IEDs). This successful raid marks a significant step in the fight against crime in the state.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the operation in a statement on Wednesday. He revealed that the raid involved the Nigeria Police Force, military, civil defence, and local vigilante operatives. Acting on credible intelligence, the team stormed the camp, destroying several makeshift structures used by the criminals.
The raid injured several fleeing suspects, some of whom escaped with bullet wounds. Ikenga noted that the operation was based on intelligence gathered from recent arrests and ongoing investigations across the state. The swift action prevented potential harm during the festive season.
Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, praised the collaboration between security agencies and the public. He urged hospitals to report anyone seeking treatment for suspicious injuries, stressing that this measure is vital for tracking down suspects and preventing further crimes.
“This operation reflects our commitment to keeping Anambra safe,” CP Itam said. He reassured residents that the Command would continue patrols and targeted operations to ensure a peaceful festive season.
The raid has brought relief to the community, especially during a time of heightened security concerns. The police urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
This decisive action sends a strong message to criminal elements. With continued efforts and cooperation, Anambra residents can look forward to a safer and more secure environment during the holidays and beyond.
