An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court has remanded a 52-year-old man, Ademilua Oni, for allegedly killing his 92-year-old mother, Comfort Oni, in Iropora-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The prosecution, led by Inspector Elijah Adejare, told the court that the tragic incident occurred on December 15, 2024. He alleged that Ademilua Oni pushed his mother during a confrontation after she challenged him over an attempt to steal. The fall reportedly caused her death.
The prosecutor stated that the act violated Section 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021, and requested the court to remand the defendant pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Chief Magistrate Kehinde Awosika ruled that the defendant be held at a correctional facility while awaiting the DPP’s legal advice. The court adjourned the case to January 30, 2025, for mention.
The defendant’s plea was not taken during the session. The case has drawn attention to the alarming act of alleged familial violence in Ekiti State.
