In a stunning move, the legislative arm of Egor Local Government Area in Edo State has impeached Eghe Ogbemudia, the council chairman, along with her vice chairman, Frank Osawe. The resolution to remove Ogbemudia and Osawe follows a comprehensive investigation into their actions, which revealed serious allegations including the unlawful withholding of statutory allowances and padding of the council’s budget. Additionally, the two leaders were accused of failing to manage the council’s affairs, including delays in the payment of councillor salaries, which had been pending for two months.
The impeachment motion was introduced by Nosakhare Isiegbuwa and seconded by Stella Ogida Osagioduwa, with the backing of four other legislators. Along with the impeachment of Ogbemudia and Osawe, the legislative leaders—Bosede Omokaro, Iwinosa Enabulele, and Elliot Inneh Enni—were suspended for not effectively performing their duties and neglecting their oversight responsibilities.
