El-Rufai, speaking at the National Conference on Strengthening Democracy in Nigeria, emphasized that this type of internal sabotage is not unique to the Labour Party. “There are internal mercenaries in the PDP, hired and motivated to destroy the party,” he stated. “The Labour Party is also facing similar issues,” he continued, referencing Obi’s own bewilderment over the situation. Obi allegedly told El-Rufai, “I don’t know what’s happening in the party I contested with,” highlighting his confusion over the increasing divisions and conflicts within the party following his presidential bid.
