Salihu Moh Lukman, former national vice chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Director General of the APC Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), has called on Nigerians to work towards the defeat of APC and President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. Lukman stressed the importance of electing truly democratic leaders who will prioritize the needs of citizens over power, and not emperors who undermine democracy.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, Lukman lamented that Nigeria’s democracy had been distorted, with elected leaders turning into emperors who disregard political party structures and the consultation processes that are essential for democratic progress. He condemned the political party system, arguing that it has become a catalyst for national disappointment and that the structures necessary for a democratic process are being eroded.
Lukman warned that if Nigeria continues on its current trajectory, the country would remain stuck in a cycle of misery and poor leadership. He urged Nigerians to reflect on what needs to be done to turn the situation around, emphasizing the power of positive belief and engagement with leaders who are responsive to the needs of the people.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Lukman expressed hope that Nigerians would demand a free, fair, and credible process that results in the election of leaders who respect democratic values and will work to resolve Nigeria’s challenges. He concluded by urging citizens to focus on creating a political party that respects its rules, which would pave the way for true democratic governance.
