Former Minister of Aviation, Fani-Kayode, has launched another fierce attack on Kemi Badenoch, the British Conservative Party leader, over her repeated criticism of Nigeria. The Nigerian-born British politician, who has frequently targeted Nigeria and its institutions, recently accused Nigerian police officers of stealing her brother’s wristwatch and shoes during a defense of the UK police force.
In a passionate response to Badenoch’s comments, Fani-Kayode, through a post on his official X handle, questioned why Badenoch would seek police protection for her mother in Lagos, given her derogatory remarks about Nigerian law enforcement. Fani-Kayode pointed out the hypocrisy in Badenoch’s stance, reminding her of the deeply rooted issues within the British police, including institutional racism and corruption, which have led to the abuse and mistreatment of black people, including Nigerians.
He further highlighted the disturbing reality that many black victims, particularly Nigerians, have faced persecution, wrongful incarceration, and even death at the hands of the UK police, who often turn a blind eye due to racial prejudices. Fani-Kayode’s remarks cut deep as he questioned why Badenoch, despite her criticisms, would still rely on Nigerian police protection for her family.
This latest clash comes as tensions between the Nigerian-born politician and her home country’s defenders continue to rise, with Vice President Kashim Shettima also taking a jab at her for not embracing her Nigerian roots. Fani-Kayode’s words add fuel to the ongoing debate about the relationship between Nigeria and its prominent citizens abroad, especially those who openly criticize their homeland while benefiting from its legacy.
