Ganduje Urges Northern Politicians to Abandon 2027 Presidential Ambitions as Tinubu’s Reelection Bid Gains Momentum

The political landscape in Nigeria is already heating up ahead of the 2027 general elections, with a clear message from the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, to Northern politicians: step back, as it is President Bola Tinubu’s turn to complete his eight-year tenure. Ganduje made this statement while addressing members of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Media Centre (PBAT Media Centre) and the Tinubu Northern Youth Forum (TNYF) at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.

This declaration comes amid speculations over the next presidential race, with opposition figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) reportedly in talks to form a coalition aimed at unseating the APC. While Tinubu has not yet formally announced his intention to seek reelection, political tradition suggests that he holds the right of first refusal for the APC’s ticket.

Ganduje emphasized that the established power rotation between the North and South must be strictly adhered to, arguing that it would be politically unjust for any Northern politician to contest against Tinubu in 2027. Drawing a parallel to former President Muhammadu Buhari’s two-term tenure, he stressed that the same opportunity must be given to Tinubu.

“When a leader from the northern part of this country was in office for eight years, we advocated that the next president in our party should come from the South,” Ganduje stated. “And luckily enough, we worked very hard with the cooperation of Nigerians. Our president has come from the South and is going, inshallah, for a second term in 2027. And then after that, power will return to the North.”

Ganduje also touched on the country’s economic challenges, acknowledging that the road to recovery requires structural adjustments. He assured that the policies being implemented under Tinubu’s administration would yield positive outcomes, particularly in stabilizing the economy and improving the lives of Nigerians.

“We are happy that we have started seeing the outcome of the reforms, especially on the economic front, and we believe this will continue to yield positive results so that the legacy and the Renewed Hope Agenda will be achieved,” he added.

His stance aligns with the broader strategic positioning of the APC, which has been working to solidify its influence ahead of the next election cycle. The PBAT Media Centre, led by Honourable Dada Olusegun, pledged to combat misinformation and ensure that the public remains informed about the administration’s achievements and policies. Similarly, Mallam Auwal Ibrahim, national coordinator of the Tinubu Northern Youth Forum, expressed confidence that the government’s policies are already delivering tangible benefits in the region.

With the APC’s internal structure rallying behind Tinubu, the political equation leading to 2027 is becoming increasingly clear. The opposition’s attempts at coalition-building may shape the electoral contest, but within the ruling party, the message appears firm—Tinubu is the candidate to beat.
