The political landscape in Delta State is shifting as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has declared that the ruling party is set to unseat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 general elections. This declaration came on Wednesday during a high-profile event at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, where Senator Ned Nwoko officially defected from the PDP to the APC.
Senator Nwoko’s political realignment is seen as a major blow to the PDP, which has historically maintained a stronghold in Delta State. The defection was formally announced on the floor of the Senate by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, cementing Nwoko’s transition into the APC.
Welcoming the Delta North Senator, Ganduje highlighted the growing influence of the APC in Delta State, noting that all three senators from the state are now members of the ruling party. This development, according to him, positions the APC for a strong electoral battle in 2027.
“You are most welcome, distinguished Senator Nwoko. Our great party is the most nationalistic party, committed to national integration, unity, and prosperity,” Ganduje said, emphasizing the APC’s vision for national progress and inclusivity.
The APC Chairman credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership for the party’s increasing appeal, pointing to economic reforms, security improvements, and governance advancements as driving forces behind the APC’s growing influence across Nigeria.
“The country is working. This is our party. We believe in internal democracy, and we know our chapter in Delta will implement this principle,” he added.
Ganduje exuded confidence in the APC’s chances of wresting control of Delta State from the PDP, stressing the importance of grassroots mobilization, strategic party structuring, and a united political front. He urged party leaders, supporters, and stakeholders to work collectively towards victory in 2027, assuring them that the APC remains committed to its principles of good governance, economic growth, and democratic values.
Senator Ned Nwoko, a prominent political figure in Delta State, has been a key player in PDP politics, and his defection signals a possible realignment of power in the region. His move could influence other political actors, stakeholders, and supporters, further tilting the balance in favor of the APC ahead of the next election cycle.
With 2027 fast approaching, analysts believe that Nwoko’s defection could be a game-changer for Delta State politics. The APC is expected to leverage his influence, resources, and political network to consolidate its grip on the state, challenging the PDP’s dominance.
As political strategies unfold, the question remains: Can the APC truly break the PDP’s hold on Delta State, or will the opposition mount a strong resistance? The coming months will determine how this high-stakes battle plays out.
