The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the introduction of a contactless passport application system aimed at simplifying the process of passport acquisition and renewal for Nigerians living in Europe.
In a statement released in Abuja, the Service Public Relations Officer, Mr. Akinsola Akinlabi, confirmed that the initiative will officially launch on February 7, with Nigerians in the United Kingdom and Ireland being the first to benefit from this new system.
According to the Comptroller General of the NIS, Kemi Nandap, this move marks the second phase of the service’s diaspora outreach, following the successful launch of the same system in Canada on November 5, 2024. Nandap emphasized that the rollout in Europe underscores the agency’s dedication to improving service delivery for Nigerians worldwide.
“The contactless passport application, currently available on the Google Play Store through the NIS Mobile app, allows Nigerians to renew their passports without the need to visit passport centers for biometric enrollment,” Nandap explained.
She highlighted that this system is part of NIS’s broader efforts to embrace technological innovations that enhance efficiency and convenience. “Our goal is to provide seamless, accessible, and efficient passport services to Nigerians, irrespective of where they reside,” she added.
The NIS Comptroller General reiterated the agency’s commitment to ensuring that Nigerians across the globe have access to fast and reliable passport services.
