The Rivers State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has endorsed former Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro, for the position of President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide. This endorsement comes ahead of the organization’s upcoming election scheduled for January 10-11, 2025.
The leadership position has been zoned to Rivers State following the tenure of Nze Ozichukwu Chukwu, who filled in for the late Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu from Imo State. At the endorsement event in Port Harcourt, Chief Lucky Ekeji, President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Rivers State, described Okiro as a true son of Rivers State and an indigene of the Egbema community.
Ekeji dismissed claims that Okiro was not from Rivers, stating that the community fully supports him for the position. He praised Okiro’s qualifications.
Women leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mrs. Love Chimezie Meregini, expressed the unanimous support of the women for Okiro and prayed for wisdom in his leadership. Okiro, in his address, shared his vision to mobilize Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, ensuring the safety and prosperity of the ethnic group and their investments globally.
