Nwaeze Onu, Deputy National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has urged President Bola Tinubu to halt the proposed tax reform bill, currently before the National Assembly. Onu described the bill as poorly timed, warning it could worsen the economic struggles Nigerians are facing.
In his New Year message, Onu called for broader consultations on the tax reform and emphasized the urgent need for a more inclusive approach to decision-making. He criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for allegedly suppressing opposition parties, calling such actions harmful to democracy.
Onu also urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and united to overcome national challenges, stating that unity is key to progress. Hope is the only gateway to overcome hardship, he said, expressing optimism for a resurgence in the new year.
The NNPP leader also advised Governor Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State to reduce governance costs and focus on improving education, suggesting that funds should be directed to sustain a functional educational system rather than luxury expenses.
