Political tension is rising in Osun State as the 2026 governorship election draws near. Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) are already clashing.
Supporters of Adeleke are rallying behind him for a second term. They argue that his accomplishments warrant re-election. But the APC dismisses these endorsements. Kola Olabisi, APC’s Director of Media and Information, says the governor hasn’t delivered on key promises, like resolving development imbalances and addressing the teacher crisis.
The APC also faces internal struggles. Disagreements over zoning the governorship ticket to the West Senatorial District have caused tensions. The future of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s potential re-election bid remains unclear.
The PDP also has challenges. Key figures, like Alhaji Shuaib Oyedokun and Dotun Babayemi, have defected. This raises concerns about unity within the party.
In response, Sunday Bisi, the PDP chairman, defended Adeleke. He pointed to infrastructure improvements and financial reforms. He criticized the APC for neglecting education and health. Bisi also denied claims that the government fired 1,500 teachers. He said the administration has improved over 100 public schools and health facilities.
As the 2026 election approaches, both parties prepare for a fierce contest. The people of Osun will decide the outcome.
