Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has commended Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, for his efforts in uniting the state and creating an inclusive political environment that transcends ethnic, social, and political divides. Bamidele, during a visit to Oyebanji in Ikogosi Ekiti on Thursday, praised the governor for successfully reshaping the political landscape of the state, promoting unity across party lines.
Bamidele, who represents Ekiti Central Senatorial District, expressed that under Oyebanji’s leadership, the state has witnessed a significant departure from the politics of division that once marked its political terrain. He emphasized that the current administration has fostered a sense of belonging for all residents, irrespective of their political affiliations or backgrounds.
The new Ekiti is one where no one is left behind, Bamidele said, reflecting on the positive atmosphere of inclusiveness in the state. He highlighted that even people who once felt alienated from the political process now feel comfortable engaging with the government. This change, he noted, is especially significant given the historical divisions that have existed in the state.
The lawmaker pointed out that for the first time, Ekiti has a governor who views himself as the leader of all people, not just the members of the ruling party or a particular religious group. He does not differentiate between APC and opposition members, nor does he divide people by their religious affiliations. He sees himself as the governor of Ekiti State, Bamidele remarked.
Echoing Bamidele’s sentiments, the Muslim community in Ekiti, led by Sheik Jamiu Kewulere, the Chief Imam of the Southwest, Edo, and Delta States, also praised Oyebanji for his inclusive governance. In a Christmas visit to the governor, Kewulere expressed pride in the achievements of the Oyebanji administration, particularly its commitment to unity and its focus on bridging religious and political divides.
Kewulere acknowledged the governor’s leadership, which he described as transcending religious boundaries, uniting all groups within the state. The Chief Imam reassured Oyebanji of the Muslim community’s continued support and prayers for his administration.
In response, Governor Oyebanji expressed his gratitude to the Senate Leader, Muslim leaders, and other political figures who joined in the Christmas celebrations. He reiterated his commitment to serving the people of Ekiti equally, stressing that love and unity are essential to the state’s ongoing development. We can only achieve progress in an atmosphere of peace, mutual respect, and unity, Oyebanji emphasized, reinforcing his dedication to fostering a prosperous and harmonious Ekiti.
