Senator Ned Nwoko Set to Defect from PDP to APC Amid Alleged Frustration

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, is preparing to officially leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the All Progressives Congress (APC) following ongoing frustrations with the party’s leadership and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s marginalization of the district.

Gloria Okolugbo, Nwoko’s Director of Communications, revealed that the senator had informed his supporters and stakeholders in Delta North of his intention to switch parties during a recent meeting. Okolugbo pointed to the lack of support from the PDP, despite Nwoko being the only PDP senator in Delta State, as a key reason for his decision.

The lawmaker’s frustrations include the PDP’s refusal to fund vital projects for Delta North, such as the Okpai Independent Power Project and the Ogwashi-Uku Dam. Okolugbo criticized the party’s internal struggles and poor governance, asserting that Nwoko’s vision for delivering good governance to the Anioma people had been thwarted by party politics.

Nwoko’s planned defection would see him become the third Delta senator to leave the PDP for the APC, a move that could significantly shift the political landscape in the state. Okolugbo suggested that the PDP’s lack of internal democracy and inability to resolve key issues had led to factionalization, a situation that would eventually benefit the ruling APC.
