The Ogun State Police Command has announced the deployment of 7,777 officers across the state to ensure the safety of lives and property during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. This heightened security measure, led by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, is aimed at curbing criminal activities that typically rise during the festive season.
In a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, the police outlined their strategy to enhance security through checkpoints, patrols, and the presence of officers in both uniform and plainclothes. Key locations such as places of worship, parks, recreation centers, government buildings, banks, and diplomats’ residences will benefit from heightened police vigilance.
High-risk areas, including the Long Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Rounder in Abeokuta, Sapaade, and Ogunmakin, will be monitored with armoured patrols to deter criminal activities. Additionally, specialized units like SWAT, Anti-Cultism, and Anti-Kidnapping squads will patrol educational institutions to maintain order.
The command emphasized its zero-tolerance policy towards any criminal activity that could disrupt the festive celebrations, warning perpetrators to abandon their plans or face the full weight of the law.
Drivers were advised to exercise caution and patience at roadblocks, which are in place to enhance security during the holidays.
According to SP Odutola, the police are working in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure a seamless and peaceful holiday period. She encouraged public cooperation and respect for security personnel, noting that adherence to protocols would contribute significantly to a safe environment.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, will personally oversee operations and coordinate with Area Commanders to ensure effective implementation. The Operations Department is well-prepared to respond decisively to any threats,” the statement added.
This proactive approach reflects the Ogun State Police Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and safety, assuring residents of a secure festive season.
